The specialist internship gives companies the opportunity to work with students who already have a broad foundation in cyber security and business and are approaching the final stage of their Bachelor’s degree. Students can contribute fresh perspectives and current academic knowledge to security projects while gaining valuable professional experience. An internship can also be a good opportunity to get to know potential future employees and may lead to further cooperation, for example through a Bachelor thesis.

Students should be integrated into the organization’s regular work and given appropriate tasks or projects under professional supervision. The majority of the student’s activities must be related to cyber security or information security. This can include both technical activities and non-technical areas such as information security management, ISMS, risk management, governance, compliance, auditing or security-related certification.

During the internship, the organization is expected to:

• provide suitable tasks and professional supervision;
• allow the student to attend required university courses and examinations;
• review the student’s internship report;
• allow supervision by HTW Berlin, if required; and
• at the end of the internship, issue a certificate confirming its duration, content and successful completion.

In return, students are expected to carry out their assigned tasks carefully, follow the organization’s applicable rules and instructions, respect confidentiality and company secrets, notify the organization in case of absence, and complete the required internship report.

The internship therefore combines practical support for the organization with a structured learning experience for the student. The details are set out in the internship agreement between the student and the internship organization.
